SDA Definition   Outline

The following summary has been provided by Pastor Kevin Morgan.

The term "old covenant" never appears in Scripture. Nonetheless, Scripture does declare that the new covenant has caused the first covenant to be old since its temporal shadowy provisions have decayed, are no longer needed, and are "ready to vanish away" (Heb. 8:13) since the "good things" symbolized by its sacrifices have come (Heb. 10:1). Through Christ, who is "the seed," Jews and Gentiles become the seed of Abraham and heirs of the promise (Gal. 3:19, 29). No longer under the law, but under grace, believers in Christ relate to the standard of the law through Christ. They are "under law to Christ" (1 Cor. 9:21). Even though circumcision is no longer a requirement, through the faith of Jesus, believers are to keep "the commandments of God" (1 Cor. 7:19; Rev. 14:12). The fruit of the Spirit raised in their lives is against no law (Gal. 5:23).
